Member Protection & Code OF Conduct

Safeguarding our children, young people and all members.

At our club, we take our responsibility to provide a safe, supportive, and caring environment for every child and young person very seriously. Safeguarding our youth is our highest priority.

Our systems, processes, and practices—aligned with legislative requirements—are designed to ensure that every member understands their roles, rights, and responsibilities in protecting children and young people.

We encourage all members to play an active role in creating a child-safe culture. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, and you can take the first step today by building your understanding of Surf Life Saving Australia’s Member Protection Policy and Child Safe Policy.

You’ll find these, along with all of our Policies and Procedures, under the ‘Our Club’ section on our website.

Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO)

At our club, fostering a culture of safety and respect is essential for all members. To support this, we have a dedicated Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) who serves as a point of contact for anyone wishing to raise concerns or seek guidance.

MPIOs provide information and support to members who may have an issue or grievance. Their role is to listen, offer guidance, and outline the options available in line with Surf Life Saving’s Complaints Resolution Policy. Please note: MPIOs do not investigate complaints—they are there to help you understand the process and find the appropriate path forward.

Having an MPIO is mandatory across all SLSA clubs, and our club has proudly had someone active in this role for the past three seasons. You'll spot our MPIO on the beach wearing a Hi-vis vest—feel free to say hello, ask questions, or simply learn more about the role.

For any confidential enquiries or support, you can email: MPIO@bunburyslsc.com.au
